How Municipal Court Warrants Work
Macon County municipal warrants start at the city level, and no single county database collects them. Tuskegee Municipal Court hears ordinance, traffic, and misdemeanor cases. Shorter's court claims the same local jurisdiction. Notasulga offers a municipal payment route and shows up in state court reporting. Franklin has a town office and a police route, but it posts no current municipal-court warrant process. Skip a court date, and the judge or municipal magistrate may issue a bench warrant for failure to appear. A bench warrant is simply a court order tied to a missed obligation. Macon County sources use "bench" and "FTA," not "capias" or "capias pro fine," so treat those labels with care. Whatever the name, the issuing court controls status, payment, appearance, and recall.
Macon County Court and Police Split
Tuskegee shows why one Macon County city can involve two offices. The Municipal Court runs the docket, court dates, payments, and orders. The Police Department holds records, investigations, and court extensions. Court staff explain what the judge entered; police handle enforcement.
| Question | First city office |
|---|---|
| Was a warrant issued or recalled? | Municipal court clerk |
| What date or payment is required? | Municipal court clerk |
| Was the warrant served? | Police records or court return |
| Is there an urgent safety issue? | Police or 911 |
That division guards against a common Macon County mistake: a payment answer is not a warrant-status answer. Ask the court about the docket, and the police only about what police records cover.
Municipal Courts Across Macon County
Three Macon County municipal courts have direct court or state reporting behind them. Franklin is the gap. Its town office and Sheriff dispatch can still name the right current venue.
| Place | Court or route | Warrant role | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuskegee | Tuskegee Municipal Court | Ordinance, traffic, misdemeanor, FTA | (334) 720-0581 |
| Shorter | Shorter Municipal Court | Traffic, misdemeanor, ordinance, FTA | (334) 724-0083 |
| Notasulga | Town and municipal portal | Municipal payment and court routing | (334) 257-1454 |
| Franklin | Town and police route | Current court process not located | (334) 727-2111 |
Outside any city venue, Macon County District Court handles county traffic and misdemeanors. Circuit Court takes felonies. The Macon County Circuit Clerk keeps both county court records, while each municipal clerk holds the city files.
Macon County Municipal Case Totals
The FY2025 Alabama municipal report lists 336 cases for Tuskegee, 31 for Shorter, and 331 for Notasulga. Those are case totals, not warrant counts. They simply prove three separate Macon County city dockets carry real activity.
Small towns still have city dockets. Notasulga's count makes that plain. A Macon County-only check can miss a municipal case, because the city clerk keeps its file.
Macon County Municipal Warrant Checks
None of these Macon County municipalities publishes an online city-warrant search. Payment portals can find or pay some cases, but they are not warrant rosters. Work every channel tied to the venue.
- Identify the city from the citation, summons, address of the event, or old court notice.
- Check the official city payment or citation portal for an indexed balance or case.
- Call the municipal clerk with the name, birth date, ticket or case number, and court date.
- Ask whether an in-person counter check is required and whether police records hold a service return.
- If the venue is uncertain, ask the Macon County Circuit Clerk or use the Sheriff’s in-person suspected-warrant route.
In Macon County, Tuskegee's court sits at 302 South Main Street, with police records at 1809 Franklin Road, Suite A. Shorter court is 2521 Old Federal Road. Notasulga's town route is 76 West Main Street; confirm hours and the right desk before you drive.
Shorter Warrant Payment Warning
The Shorter Municipal Court allows some charges to be paid without an appearance, but it warns that failure to pay or appear can bring an arrest warrant and added consequences. Wait 48 hours after a citation, then confirm the cost. Payments run online, by voice at (334) 721-2111, at the counter, or by mail with a signed guilty plea or waiver and a money order or cashier's check. Those routes only settle cases eligible for payment. If you want to contest the charge, face an appearance-required offense, or already carry a warrant, ask the clerk what court action is needed. The court's own Shorter page posts the payment rules, the 48-hour wait, and the arrest-warrant warning in full.

That arrest-warrant warning is why a Macon County court's confirmation matters more than any payment receipt.
Municipal Warrants: What They Show
A municipal warrant record ties a Macon County city charge to the court's order and the law-enforcement return. Alabama forms set the schema. Not every field shows up in every city file.
| Case or warrant number | The city file and warrant identifiers, with no uniform Macon format confirmed. |
|---|---|
| Named court | Tuskegee, Shorter, Notasulga, or another verified venue. |
| Charge | Ordinance, misdemeanor, traffic, or FTA matter. |
| Issue details | Date and judge or magistrate authority when public. |
| Service return | Officer, agency, date, and return information. |
| Recall | Court order ending or changing arrest authority. |
Unserved warrants, juvenile files, sealed cases, and open investigations stay restricted. The Alabama Open Records Law does not override those limits. Ask a Macon County clerk for a status confirmation and the public portion of the file.
Notasulga Portal Is Not a List
The Notasulga payment portal gives the town a payment path but publishes no warrant-search fields. An empty result or missing balance never means "no warrant." Call (334) 257-1454 for current municipal court routing. The state-backed Notasulga profile lists town hall contacts.

That profile is a contact route, not a Macon County warrant database. The city clerk must still confirm the record and any recall.
Clearing a Municipal Court Warrant
Only the issuing city court can recall its warrant. Recall means a court order withdraws or changes the warrant and notifies the enforcing agency. Alabama CR-59 allows settlement before service, an unserved return, replacement, or another stated basis.
- Confirm the city, case, warrant status, and whether contact may cause arrest.
- Ask whether payment, a new appearance, plea, bond, attorney filing, or surrender is required.
- Complete the method authorized by the court. Do not assume all charges are payable online.
- Request a receipt or order and confirm the recall reached police or the Sheriff.
Warning: A portal receipt does not prove a Macon County municipal warrant was recalled; obtain status from the issuing city court.
The clerk cannot give legal advice. Counsel handles contested charges, recall motions, and planned surrenders. Macon County municipal courts run no amnesty event and charge no warrant recall fee.
Macon County Sheriff List Myth
The Macon County Sheriff posts no searchable list of active warrants. That would not clear a city warrant anyway. Municipal clerks keep their own files. The Macon court also says an unserved arrest warrant stays private until it is served. So where do you turn first? When a city payment search and a county source disagree, call the issuing municipal court before anything else. The official Macon Magistrates and Warrants page can then route you to an in-person Sheriff's Department check. It gives (334) 727-2500 for its report and investigator route. The state sheriff directory lists (334) 724-0669. For a ticket-based case, the Macon County traffic warrant process adds AlaPay and state traffic channels, though neither one confirms a city warrant.
